In a world full of overrated pleasures and underrated treasures rare gems like the delicate Calypso orchid still exist, tucked away in nature's secret wilderness.

A portion of this pristine forest domain has been set aside to preserve and protect the natural colonies of Calypso bulbosa, also called Venus slipper or Fairy slipper orchid.

The private reserve has not been open to the public until now. Personal tours will be given through the area during the flowering period in mid May 2003. To protect the fragile environment of these delicate flowers only a limited number of visitors will be permitted per day.

How to get there:

The Calypso Reserve is located in the beautiful Cariboo district of British Columbia, Canada. It is an area of mountains, lakes and forests. 5 hours drive from Vancouver via Hope and north to 100 Mile House along the Gold Rush trail, route 97. Turn off to Forest Grove and Canim Lake. The reserve is near the Wells Gray Provincial Park. Here is a map of the region. We will lead visitors to the exact location.

Where to stay:

Lodges and resorts are nearby. May is not a busy month and you'll have the place to yourself!

Things to do:

Dozens of lakes surround the area - excellent trout fishing. This is Moose and beaver country. You will enjoy the abundant wildlife and the unique peace and quiet.

Our guided tours

will show you around the reserve twice daily on easy walks. They last approximately 1 1/2 hours - 2 hours and start at 10 am and 2 pm (or as arranged with you).
